Iyengar Yoga is based on the teachings of the living yoga master B.K.S. Iyengar, author of the classic yoga treatise Light on Yoga, who began teaching in Pune, India, in 1936 at the age of 18. B.K.S Iyengar pioneered the use of props, such as blocks and belts, to help each student attained alignment in the postures. Mr. Iyengar, together with his daughter Geeta and son Prashant, has developed a method of teaching traditional Hatha Yoga poses that systematically promotes each student’s ability and skill.
