Summer Step-Up Week 2009 with Master Kim

We are recruiting volunteers for Summer Step-Up Week at the SunDo Retreat Center from July 22 - July 30, 2009. This week represents a time when SunDo members and others who may be interested can "step-up" and do their part to help maintain the Retreat Center.

This year, volunteer projects include:
   Landscaping and gardening projects;
   Staining the meditation hall and painting the windows;
   Staining our new greenhouse and garden/tool shed building;
   Dismantling the older garden shed structure.

Some of these projects will require physical effort and may be strenuous. If lighter work is desired, several volunteers are also needed for cooking, gardening and landscaping.

Please see the SunDo Building Project Timeline for more detailed information.

Please contact Christine at questions@sundo.org by July 1 if you are interested in becoming a part of Summer Step-Up Week.

During this week, Master Kim will supervise and lead daily SunDo practice. We will also observe regular mealtimes and follow a structured schedule of work and free time. All volunteers will be asked to make a reasonable donation toward food expenses.

Our intention for Summer Step-Up week is to create a place where people can incorporate their SunDo practice with work and community. In contrast with retreats that feature workshops and discussion, Summer Step-Up will merge physical tasks, community life and meditation to further our SunDo practice and enhance the Retreat Center.

"When the Master governs, the people are hardly aware that he exists. Next best is a leader who is loved. Next, one who is feared. The worst is one who is despised.

If you don't trust the people, you make them untrustworthy.

The Master doesn't talk, he acts. When his work is done, the people say, "Amazing: we did it, all by ourselves!"
