Sustaining SunDo SunDo Korean New Year Fundraiser Dear Fellow Members, Welcome to the year of the Rabbit. In Korean tradition, the rabbit symbolizes cleverness, prosperity and fertility. Did you know that Korean tradition says that the creature seen on the face of the full moon is a rabbit? To help the prosperity of the Retreat Center, we would like to raise money to buy and install a new stove for the meditation hall. A good quality stove with piping, a larger hearth stone and installation will cost roughly $4,650. Before I could even write this, Heidi from the St. Johnsbury center offered to pay for the hearth stone that will go under the stove, so we only need $4,000 now! Thank you Heidi! In past years, we have had a matching fund for donations from members. This year a generous donor has set up a slightly different matching fund to encourage us to reach out to new donors. As you think about how much you will donate, also think about someone else you could ask to help. I am planning to ask my sister. I’ve told her about Sun Do over the years, getting up at 4:30 on Retreats and the great benefits that Sun Do has given me. One of our mutual friends has practiced Sun Do as well, so my sister is familiar with the practice. I’m a little nervous, but I will ask her for a small donation of $5 to $20 towards buying a new wood stove. I’ll mention that her donation will be matched, resulting in a $10 to $40 donation. Is there someone you could ask? If you are successful and a new donor does give you a check, just tell them to write “New Donor” on the memo line. If you get cash from them, and you send a check with their donation and yours combined, then just write a note for Diane, our bookkeeper, mentioning what amount came from the new donor and their name & address.
Please send all checks to: We do appreciate ALL donations – both regular donors and new donors. It is your money and generousity that keeps the Retreat Center functioning well and gives us all a place where we can truly retreat from the world and rejuvenate ourselves.
Thanks, PS – As a few members pointed out, I need to explain why we need a new stove for the Retreat Center's meditation hall. The stove that we've had in the meditation hall since the beginning has many gaps opening up in the sides. They can't be welded because the metal is cast iron which is too brittle for welding. So, a new stove is the safer, long term solution. With a new stove comes the need to update the piping and hearth stone as well, hence the call for $4650. Thanks everyone!
By designating SunDo as a beneficiary in your will or life insurance policy, you can help to ensure the continued development of our Retreat Center. Planned gifts can also provide you with valuable tax benefits, and may enable you to provide a larger contribution to the SunDo organization than is possible during your lifetime.

Throw away holiness and wisdom,
and people will be a hundred times happier. Throw away morality and justice, and people will do the right thing. Throw away industry and profit, and there won't be any thieves. If these three aren't enough, just stay at the center of the circle and let all things take their course.
